We’re getting our community bowling! MPBC’s 2024 Crowdfunder campaign to secure money to complete renovation work on the 2nd Green – “the Community Green” – has reached it’s £5,000 target.

The total was boosted by a £2,000 contribution from Sport England, who valued the club’s aspiration to extend accessibility to all sections of the community.

Chair of the MPBC Committee, Tom Rhodes, said reaching the target was “great news and marked another important milestone in the club’s progress.” Tom explained, “When I joined the club last spring, the bottom green was very overgrown and had not been used for bowling for years. Of course, its the original green and it is an important part of our history – but more than that, it is a community resource. The fact that Jim and his team will now have the funding to press on and get the green back to competition standard is a wonderful opportunity for us. Having the Community Green in use makes us more visible, allows us to play all year round, allows us to play when their are competitive games on the top green and doubles our potential use.”
“Next week we have 40 local school-children coming to bowl at the club and we will need both greens. Jim and the other volunteers have done a really incredible job with the help of local business such as Turner Plant Hire, who provided us with the loan of some vital equipment. With this funding we can really get the green up to competition scratch. This will mean that in future we could increase entry size for tournaments and generate more revenue as well as being sure we have a green available for members when we are running other community sessions such as the one we did for a Care Home last week”

“A big thank you to all who contributed to the campaign… and there are still several discounted rewards available on the website” https://meersbrookparkbc.org.uk/join/
