Twelve of the club’s keen members benefitted from the delivery of a free Level 2 coaching session with South Yorkshire County Crown Green Bowling Association Coach, Steve Hawksworth, on Saturday 8th June.
The session built on the Level 1 Basic session Steve had delivered previously and was felt to be of great use by those attending.
Focus was on different types of mark and shot selection – looking particularly at Straight, Round and Falling marks. The instruction covered technical aspects of delivery but also on tactical considerations – when to choose each type of bowl and what to adjust in doing so. Steve enforced the realisation that mindset, tactics and green craft – the knowledge and use of the idiosyncratic nature of each green – offer opportunity to maximize one’s match advantage. Everybody left with understanding of the importance of shot selection and why, as well as how, it is vital to get this correct.
We hope that Steve will be able to deliver further courses over the summer – possibly an even more advanced Level 3 course, looking at more specialised shots and their application.
