The Club’s 11’s Ladder – a league table of players graded by performance in first to 11 games – has a new leader. After topping the Ladder for much of last season and the start of the 2024 campaign, and despite a victory in his solitary match in May, which increased his grade, Jon S has been overtaken on the top rung by a player who won all 3 of his games in May and conceded just 17 points in the process.
Paul Jenkinson registered two wins over Agnes and a convincing win over Jim, who falls from second to fourth on the May ladder after a strong performance in April.

Paul, who often plays doubles when appearing for the club in the Social, Works and Veterans leagues, only started playing regularly last season. It will be interesting to see if he can maintain this form over the summer.
Jim and Steve S dominate the ladder in terms of games played, and Steve had a better month, increasing his grade by 96 to go 5th, while Tom R stays 3rd despite not playing in May.
All members are given a starting grade – determined by last year’s score or, for new players, an average score. Changes to that grade is determined by results against opponents, with every match giving a grading score to both players. An average score of all that players matches determines their current grade – The grading score for each match depends on the grading of the opponent and the margin of victory or defeat. For example if Player A and Player B both have a grading score of 1000 and Player A wins 11-8, the grading scores for that match would be Player A 1304 and Player B 696. Whereas, if Player A won 11-1 the grading performance would be: Player A 1875, Player B 125.
Any member can play games in the ladder. All you have to do is find somebody to play and write the score down on the sheet which is normally on the table or on the notice board in the Captain’s Room (the room where the bowls are stored).
