Mike and Agnes were the biggest winners in a splendid all-round team display as Meersbrook Park comfortably overpowered Crookes Social’s B Team in the Hallamshire on Tuesday (30th May).
On a kind summer’s evening, the MP’s capitalised on a home fixture after some weeks on the road. The win lifts us off the bottom of Division D, leapfrogging Crookes and putting us within touching distance of our next opponent, Nether Edge.
The evening began well with Jon and Barbara both seeing through strong starts to win relatively comfortably. Butch had a tougher pairing and a harder time, eventually losing out, but Andrew continued his welcome habit of dealing well with high pressure finishes, taking the final end at 20 across to give the MP’s a 3-1 halfway lead.
Thing got better for the home team with the second games. Agnes was close to flawless in her win to 8 and Mike returned to something like his best form, giving up a measly 7. Rod also played his normal accurate game to record a good win. Tucker doggedly took his match to a tense finish, but his narrow loss did little to upset a quite one-sided scorecard.
