Agnes and Cei scored a remarkable 21-2 win in the Division 3 of the Sheffield Works Doubles League on Friday (4th August). With Paul J and Tom scoring enough points in their defeat to secure the aggregate doubles points, Meersbrook Park banked another 3 league to keep them in contention for the doubles title.

Cei feared that after the first end, “we were going to get thrashed,” but thankfully judgment with the bowls was a lot better her assessment of the outcome and with Anges playing a series of brilliant leads, the well-established pairing notched up another memorable win.

Millhouses fielded a very strong singles line up.  Steve fought valiantly and kept pegging back Terry’s Wednesday Doubles Partner (at Graves Park) but her consistency over any length proved too much in the end.  Paul T struggled to find his rhythm and didn’t see much of the jack against another experienced opponent, and at the changeover Meersbrook Park were 2 down in the singles.

Jon and Terry both played well to reverse this scoreline.  Terry, in particular, continued his excellent form – the greener surfaces seem to be suiting him – to defeat Jon’s nemesis from earlier in the season, “Glorious” Gaynor.   https://meersbrookparkbc.org.uk/glorious-gaynor-ensures-jon-wont-survive/

Jon had a tough match but came through against another experienced player who regularly plays 4 competitive matches a week to secure an overall 5-5 draw but with the doubles win the most significant outcome from the evening.

The above tables do NOT include last nights matches, so you can see how Meersbrook Park (listed as Meersbrook) have used their game in hand to pull away from Millhouses and close the gap on the doubles ranking on leaders Bradway B to just 2 points with a third of the season remaining.
