Meersbrook Park spent a beautiful evening playing in the shadow of Hollinsend Church (on Monday 19th June) but were unable to record their first win of the season. Hollinsend showed why are they are contending for the Division E Social League title, fielding a strong, while friendly team.
Cia and Jon began the first singles and found it tough going. Cai had the ill fortune to be paired against a county bowler and did well to reach double figures. Jon recovered from a slow start to eek out a narrow win, but Agnes and Linda were hardly given a sniff and retired to the splendid new pavilion with the green still in sunlight.
The second wave of matches followed a similar pattern, although Andrew played very nicely and clinched the MP’s second point (all of which count towards our points total in the league table) with a relatively comfortable win to 13. Jim and doubles pairing of Paul J and Tom all put in decent performances but Hollinsend were simply too good on the night.
Still, another beautiful evening and more experience for a Meersbrook Park team where 5 of the 8 players were in their first season of Crown Green Bowling. The 2 points gained leave Meersbrook Park 3 points adrift of Stocksbridge in 7th with a home fixture against Catcliffe B next Monday.
